Aylmer Opens Playoffs with Big Win Over Point Edward
Aylmer Novice LL1 travelled to Point Edward on Saturday, February 6 to open the playoffs against a team they had failed to beat in their first two regular season meetings.  The challenge was steep but the Flames team has shown all season they can step up in big games.

The first period was a back and forth affair with Point Edward opening the scoring with 1:49 left.  Aylmer came right back 70 seconds later on a goal by Gavin Russell assisted by Owen Peters leaving the first period even.  Aylmer took flight in the second period scoring 4 goals to Point Edwards 1 and chasing their starting goalie from the net.  Colin Holmes scored 2 goals, Gavin Russell picked up another goal and Thomas Dance cashed in as well.  Point Edward would not go away quietly though and scored 2 goals in the middle of the second period to pull within 1 goal.  Point Edward continued to push for the tying goal but Aylmer was able to hold them off and add another goal to pad the lead on a tally by Gavin Russell who completed the hat trick.  Assists went to Owen Peters and Tyler Vis.  Aylmer was able to come away with a well earned 6-4 victory to open the playoffs.  The game was certainly an indication of how tight the series will be.
